Damn, 3/5 seems a bit mean, I bought these a few weeks ago after previously owning XM3 & 4s & I haven't looked back. The sound is so much richer and detailed than my XM4's, I'm hearing fresh details in every track that I've never heard before each time I listen to an old favourite and I've been loving them more each day. Also missing in this review is the selling point that Cambridge Audio sell user replaceable batteries (and earpads) which seriously adds to the longevity of the product compared to all the competitors.

Sony in particular is amongst the worst for offering no official spare parts, it's practically impossible to get reasonably priced official earpad replacements in most countries for Sony ANC headphones. It's a disgusting example of planned obsolescence from these giant corporate behemoths trying to railroad the customer into buying a whole new pair of expensive headphones rather than spending some spare change making the old product last. I much prefer Cambridge Audio's approach to sustainability and not trying to shaft the customer.

Imagine thinking Sony headphones have a better sound compared to these. The author clearly has no idea about sound quality. This site is what Hi fi ; I guess they struggle to understand hi fi sound 😹

Its shows reviews can be influenced by subjectiveness or maybe a commitment by rival companies to advertise in magazines as long as they favour brands. The reality Is i have listened to these in richers sounds and £1 for £1 I found them excellent. No leakage like the overrated Sony xm5 which is never mentioned. And lots of 5 star reviews elsewhere. ..🤔🤔🤔

I own both the Melomania P100 and the Sony WH-1000XM5, and I absolutely do not agree with the review. In my experience, the P100s offer more clarity and presence compared to the XM5s, with a noticeable difference.

Depending on the genre, that 'presence' can be quite substantial. For example, when listening to David Sanborn – Run for Cover (Live) or Bobby Womack – If You Think You're Lonely Now, the P100s perform above and beyond the XM5s. The sound is much, much warmer, and the presence is amazing. I understand that headphone reviews can be very subjective, but sometimes the difference is so clear that it shouldn't be.

All I'm saying is, if you can, try them out—try both if possible.
