Need your help / opinions!

My Dad has a Pioneer 50" PDP-506PE plasma TV wall-mounted using the Pioneer mounting. This was purchased new in October 2005, professionally installed and has performed well. Each day he tends to pull the TV out to view it at an angle and return it so it lies flat against the wall when they have finished viewing.

About 2 months ago, he noticed that when he pushes it back to the wall, the picture becomes distorted, often clearing again as the screen lies flat against the wall. This only happens when pushing the screen back against the wall, never when pulling it away from the wall. It also never happens when viewing the screen or when the screen is still.

He thought initially it might be the cable connections but these all seem to be fully pushed in, both at the screen end and the receiver end. He also watched the cable carefully as the screen is pushed back but can see nothing that would suggest it is the cable itself. Interestingly, it also happens even if no signal is coming through e.g. TV is set to DVD source, but DVD player is switched off. Here's some pics of the issue:

I am inclined to think it must be something to do with the cable, but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this before I advise cutting the cable away from the bracket and seeing if this solves the issue and then possibly replacing it if not. The TV isn't in warranty any more, so getting an engineer out will be a cost my Dad would rather avoid!

Thanks as always for any tips!

Hi Hat, No I"m not a Drummerman. Just been looking at your Dads set up and don"t like the look of the cable arrangement where the white leads seem to go through the bottom of the bracket. If I were you I"d remove both those Leads completely, then reconnect them. If this doesn"t work, replace one lead at at time. I think that over time one or both of the leads have become worn inside the sheathing, from being pulled in and out while adjusting the viewing angle each time.Pretty sure it isn"t the TV. btw I am a now retired sparks. So good luck let us know how you get on. regards mocha [the cool cat]
