Callibrate your tv?

HI i am new to this forum everyone. excuse me for my ignorance but can anyone explain to me what it means and what you have to do to callibrate your tv? at first guess i suppose it means of a way of improving picture quality and other things but like i say dont really have a clue. Im sure it's been explained before on this forum, but to be honest i cant be bothered to trawl through all the pages. I have a Sony W324000 and was wandering if it would benefit my tv by callibrating my tv?

any info would be very much apprectiated.
