At 10:20 Mr Steve Withers from Storm Front http://www.stormfrontav.com/ arrived at my flat. He will:

1. Calibrate the Sony KDL-75W855C for subdued daylight (no separate day and night settings) and for 3D.

2. Calibrate the Panasonic TX-P65VT65 for subdued daylight and for 3D.

3. Re-calibrate the Pioneer LX5090 for subdued daylight (no 3D, alas!).

4. Suggest bias lighting for the Sony and for the LG 60PZ950T. This is because these televisions' black levels are not as good as the Pioneer or the Panasonic, so don't perform so well if the room is dark.

5. Audio calibration of the 12.1 Audyssey system in the parlour.

6. Audio calibration of the 8.1 Yamaha system in the kitchen.

7. Check that my four-way splitting of signals from parlour and kitchen to all other rooms is working correctly.

8. Discuss Dolby Atmos.

I presume you meant "What are you" rather than "Want are you"? Not top secret, but he will have various fees for various clients depending on the particular job, so maybe it's best that I don't disclose it in public. I will say though that if you get several things done at once, you tend to get a bit of a discount because clearly the calibrator doesn't have several sets of travel costs, for instance.

The man is going to leave a physical wreck .it took him almost 5 hours for the GT & ZT calibration never mind 2 additional calibrations + audio calibrations .there will be no change from £600.

I have to say the calibration on the Panasonic OLED from Gordan Fraser was superb. The normal settings were not great even though reviewers said it was good.

You've miscounted - you are talking about four video calibrations, and I think you'll find that I mentioned only three.

And no, he did not leave as a physical wreck, in fact he seemed in sparkling good health when I escorted him onto the train!

However, we ran out of time, so in fact we didn't do the second audio calibration, of the kitchen system, and I completely forgot to ask him about bias lighting!

For bias lighting you want a light that is 6500k in colour temperature.

This is a natural light colour to the eye that is not distracting.

Under counter led kitchen lights are often this colour or warm 5300k.

You juts need enough for the light to emit from that big tv but, as they are kitchen under counter lights they link together to make arrays which means you only need 1 plug / power feed.

Fact they are LED compensates for your other high energy consumption fetishes ;)

LIke this for example - I velcro'd mind to the wall to save taking the tv down, you have access to the rear so can place these in good spots or velcro'd to the back of the tv

I'll need to ask Steve Withers for his suggestions also, but that's a useful link, Ellisdj, thank you. I'm just not sure of how long the fluorescent lights should be, I presume just shorter than the width of the television? And how many fluorescent lights do I need per television, two or three? I would attach the lights to the back of the television. This is only for the Sony and the LG.

I used 1 for a 50 inch and probably 2 for bigger.

Depends on what effect you are after - when the TV is on the wall it makes the TV look like its floating.

However you have a bay behind the main tv so that will all light up - depeding on how the light reflects off curtains etc.

As they are not really expensive maybe buy a couple see how you get on then see what you need from there, rather than going for it and not being happy / having too many / not enough

Visual chillout has a TV bias lighting kit (LED strip) which I had. It is a bit flimsy, so be careful when sticking to the back of the TV. I've replaced it with Philips Hue strip which is far better quality and integrates well with the Philips Hue lights in the living room. I'm using it for decorative purpose anyway, instead of bias lighting.

What is an audio calibration? I had mine setup by a shop, does that count as one?

Nice of him to flipping reply, and seeing how he goes on at other members when they don't reply. Low!

Once more, you are inaccurate, gel. I go on at other members when they don't reply, having specifically asked for advice.

I didn't realise that it was compulsory for me to provide a calibration report for the benefit of everyone else ..... but I'm too busy to do it before the weekend. Suffice it to say just now that calibration is a GOOD THING.
