Cables for Arcam and Musical Fidelity

I've bought an Arcam CD73 to go with my MF X-Can v8 and AKG K701s.

Now all I need is the right interconnect and possibly a mains cable. Any suggestions? Would the Chord Chameleon Silver Plus by overkill? I don't want to spend a fortune, so that would be the most expensive option, I think...

It's a good cable, good deals can be found on eBay for much less than £125. It's quite a bassy sound, but with a nice amount of detail.

You know, the AKGs are not exactly bassy, so I thought a slightly bassy cable might be the right way to go...

I bought a Chord Chameleon Silver Plus on Ebay today!! Hopefully, it'll have the desired effect in my system. I'll keep y'all updated...In the meantime, what are your views on mains cables from Clearer Audio, Chord, Merlin? Any significant differences in the entry level products? I'd be using it on the Arcam CD73.

Go for the clearer audio- you have a money back guarantee if you don't like it. Russ Andrews mains are pretty good too 🙂

hedgehog ... if you have a spare £20 or so in time to come, get a silver High breed interconnect (search ebay)

and then compare that your Chord interconnect (then let us know what you think?)

I swear by Chord Company cables. They are absolutely superb and my loyalty was increased further by the fact that the Chord rep at the Manchester Show was so enthusiastic, genuine and chatty. Excellent company.

matthew .... have you tried a silver high breed? (know you dont want to upgrade as you have just set up your system, but you may be amazed at the £20 spent) .... and can sell your existing interconnect on ebay for more than £20

I actually own one of the SHB cables already and use it in another system. I'll make sure to compare it to the Chord but, to be honest, based on what I've heard so far, I'm not sure it would beat it. We'll see, and I'll let you know. It's certainly a decent cable!

Matthew, thanks for your impressions. My experience of the Chord Chameleon in a friend's system is very good, and I wonder whether the Chord Superscreen may be better than the Clearer Audio...
