Cable connection problem to new sub.

A (thick, good quality) speaker cable was feeding an old passive sub in the opposite side of my living room to my av set-up. It is difficult to run the new cable to feed my new active sub nice and discreetly under floor boards, behind skirting etc. Can i adapt the existing speaker cable on each end to correctly connect to the monaural audio cable sockets on both the amp and sub? I know it will be a compromise to the sound quality but it has to be done until i re-decorate. Your thoughts please.

No problem if it's a speaker level connection, suck it and see on a line level one. It may hum.
