Hi,
This might sound a bit of a contradiction to what I said earlier about cables making a significant difference- but they do make some difference for eg I use to use QED interconnects and speaker cables and found it a bit forward and bright and lacked some bass. I moved to Kimber which made the sound more musical, tonally balanced with warmth, less foward with added depth and detail to the soundstage. This was a move from QED silver, and Quenex 1 & 2 interconnects to Kimber 8tc, kimber pbj about 8-10 year ago.
I also moved from a carpeted heavy furnishings house into a unit which had solid walls and wooden floor boards - this made the sound a bit bright and hard so we put down a large mat in front of the speakers, heavy curtains, and added furnishings which help get rid of some of the upper mid forwardness and hardness. I now use a mixture of Kimber, chord, siltech but also use, eichmann and nordost as I have two systems + surround unit.
Cheers
Steve
