Hi guys.

My living room is 5.5X6 meters.

A couple of months back I bought the Panasonic 42PZ800, a fabulous TV in everyway, looks great even when switched off.

I recently decided to upgrade my speakers. I first started with the B&W ASW610 Sub, great sub.

My next upgrade will be the center speakers and the main speakers; for the main I'm thinking of getting the B&W 685, and for the center speaker: HTM62 from B&W, as it would be the logical thing to do. As I did my measurements for the space availabe in the TV cabinet (ALPHASON FW1100), the top shelf only measured 16cm, and the HTM62 is 1cm too tall.

As I am upgrading my speakers in the line of B&W 685 Theatre, are they any suggestion for an alternitve smaller center speaker that will compliment this setup?

I really don't want to put the speak on the bottom shelf where it's vertually on the floor and putting the receiver + DVD player + Sky HD on the top shelf. I adore my ALPHASON FW1100, and will try my very best not to change it....

Thanks for your help guys !!!

David,

That is a nice cabinet indeed. Is it possible to lower the top shelf, DIY or otherwise?

An alternative would be the BW M-1 satellite. With the table-stand attached and the speakers mounted horizontally it would be no taller than 15cm, enough to fit into the 16cm shelf.

I would contact Alphason direct and ask them to provide a set of spacers, maybe 18cms, This would give you more flexibility with regards to choice. Won"t be cheap but not as much as a new unit.Worth a try

My centre speaker probably does more work than any of the others and is absolutely crucial for TV sound and making dialogue clear and natural. You can tell that I'm very happy with it! It would be the last area I would make compromises. I know it sounds heartless, but I'd put your cabinet on ebay and buy another!

Make a cabinet of equal volume that fits in the gap you have and transplant the drivers crossovers and lagging from the B&W cabinet.

Failing that, put it on the bottom shelf with a prop to point it upwards to your ears.
