ca840 and bw683 any good ?

almost certain to buy bw683 floorstanders..Have listened to them with ca 640 amp/cdp but at the time preferred the nad c355bee which i bought. the ca640 not far behind the nad but have nnot had a chance to listen to the ca 840 amp with bw683...has any-one heard this combination and is ca840 much of an improvement over ca640 ?

I've not heard the 683s but the 840 is Premiership to the 640 being Division 3. No comparison.

ok thanks, sounds like a demo coming up. may also compare ma rs8 to bw 683 just hope rs8 are not too bright.

I have the RS6s with the 840 and it's not bright - the combo goes very well.

Thanks gerrardasnails, managed to listen to ca 840 series and bw683 yesterday and yes the 840 is is quite a step up on 640 series. had a bit of luck as the CA sales rep happened to be in ythe shop at the same time !, so we had a good chat and demo session. Also had dacmagic with a lap top with 'balanced' connectors (chord chorus 2)...It all sounded pretty darn good to me but i dont think a 840 series cdp is needed after hearing the dacmagic. that dacmagic really is that good and is only a third of the price of the 840 cdp..though i think the 840 amp is well woth the extra over 640 amp.

I have the 840, DacMagic and Chorus 2 XLR! Nice!!

The 840A is an amazing amp if your thinking of a new CD player the 740C / 840C both have there own sort of DacMagics built in so you will have a DacMagic and a better CD player but all in one package (the cd players dac just dose not have balance or as many inputs as the realy DacMagic but the basics are still the same).

I too have the 840 amp and dacmagic currently running monitor audios rs1.I am really so happy with it.Ripping all my albums to lossless a pleasure.My next upgrade will be to floor standers also.Top of my list will be between the rs6/rs8 and the mezzo 8 that nickd2544 is using since mordaunt short and cambridge audio are in cahoots.Also my wildcard will be the M.A. GS 10 as my local rep said he'd do a deal for me.I guess my point is check out the mezzos.
