CA Azur 840 CD player - £249 from Richer. A no-brainer?

I'm looking to upgrade my NAD 515BEE and ran across what looks like the hot deal of the century at Richer Sounds -- a CA Azur 840 CD player for £249.00. This was tested a while back by What Hi -Fi at an indicative RRP of £750.00! The only slight drawback is that it's only available from their Central London branch (a mere 400 miles round trip from Liverpool).

Surely this would be worth, at the very least, an audition. Has anyone come across the CA 840 before? Presumably, at that price point it would blow away the budget opposition. Would it be worth the trip for me to go and demo?

They won't do intra-branch shipping i.e. to my local Liverpool store. They have four in stock in their Holborn branch. If they still have stock next weekend then I have a tricky decision to make. WHF gave the 840C a decent, four-star review, but criticised its 'clinical' sound. I still presume it would wipe the floor with, say, sub-£500 opposition.

Then buy it and arrange for your own courier pickup. Should cost no more than about £30 (cheaper than a 400 mile trip in the car) and include the insurance.

Try Interparcel or Parcel2go to get some idea of cost.

That what I would do - Obviously you would not be covered to DSR but if you did not like it you will get your money back by selling it on!

I would reserve it and test it out when you go to the store. I went to buy a CA651BD and neither of them would work and neither came with remotes, 1 was ex-display and 1 was a return.

Buy it, you won't regret it! It's a very good CD player! I've used mine for the last 5 years, and I hope, I can still enjoy it for the next couple of years.
