Hey guys, I've been wanting to buy an amp for a while now but can't seem to decide whether to spend £350 on the CA 650a or step up to the CA 840!

I don't mind spending the extra on the 840 if it's gunna be a much better amp than the 650a but can't help thinking it's a much older amp and with technology moving on, the 650a will sound nearly as gd.

Is this likely or is the 840a still gunna be a far better amp???

Thanks in advance, Rick.

Why are you set on Cambridge Audio amps

There are other amps out there at similar prices that should be demo'd as well.

Are you looking at new only or 2nd hand as well?

The 840 has a more agreeable tonal balance than the budget versions - it's a good amp.

As the other poster mentions there are some wonderful options, such as Creek Evo, Rotel, Roksan Kandy, Nad, Arcam... all should work well with Kef IQ5s.
