CA 540A as preAmp only

Can the CA 540A be used as a preamp only.....without speakers connected to the o/p. Doesnt look that obvious, I think the speaker terminals will have to be loaded.......suggestions here please. Many thanks

If you have pre-outs then yes, no problem. I used to do the same with my Rotel RA03 and it wasn't until later on that it occurred to me to turn off the speakers. There was never any problem not driving from the amp.
