Hi,

I am totally new to this so I was hoping for some advice.

I have a set of KEF iq5 floorstanding speakers which I run from a Teac H300 hifi. I have had this setup for a little while and think I have got used to it a little now. I want to keep the speakers but I want to take the step up again. I find myself winding up the bass and treble on the teac system to almost max recently to get some more from it. Without doing that it all seems a little empty somehow?!

How much am I going to need to budget for to improve significantly on the teac system. And does anyone have some recommendations. I intend to get down to a few local shops to try some things out but if anyone can narrow the search down that would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Try separate amplifier and CD player for a start.

Both NAD and Cambridge do some excellent budget gear but you'll need to budget about 500 quid if you want latest model new.

Alternatively look at Richer sounds but remember the good stuff they sell is likely not to be the current model.

Fleabay does have some bargains too but I would stick to stuff less than 5 years old and from well known makes.

Thanks for that, I appreciate the advice.

I realize that so much of this is individual opinion, but just how much better will £500 of equipment sound compared to the Teac system? Can I expect big things for that kind of money?

Also I have been looking online and seen a few deals on the Marantz 6003 amp and cd seperates. Anyone had any experience of these? They seem to get a good write up.

Thanks again.
