I went to the What-Hi show in Manchester 2009, in the end I didn't buy the LG Budget Tv award winner and went for the Panasonic Plasma G10, which is a great TV.

I now want to buy a second tv for the other sitting room and I have 3 options:

(1) Buy the Sony 40" EX503 (for £399)

(2) Go all out and buy one of latest Samsung 46" tv's - I just love the new design

(3) Get an LED backlit tv - seem to be a lot of options out there

Any help would be greatly appreciated - especially from the what-hifi team 🙂

Should I opt for the Sony 40 EX503 - despite the 1080p bbc hd issues seems to be the best budget tv out there at the moment?

local John Lewis store - it was £499, but got a further £100 off for trading in an old portable tv, so cost me £399. To sweeten the deal further got £50 off the Sony S380 blu-ray player, which cost £79 (£129 - £50). £478 for both plus 5 year guarantee on the tv - sounds like a cracking deal to me.

yes that is an excellent deal. Is that at all John Lewis stores? I looked online and it is £699.
For £399, surely you can't get a better deal than that?

This was John Lewis in Sheffield - so may vary from store to store - I was surprised at how cheap it was.
