I'm looking for a stereo preamp for use with active speakers, at up to around £250. It needs to have a phono input, a couple of line level inputs, and be remote controlled. Digital inputs are not necessary. So far, I've not had much luck in finding anything suitable.

Any suggestions ?

I suggest you buy the best av receiver that you can buy second hand for your money that has preouts for front channels. You'll get better deals on ones that don't have hdmi inputs. This is the route I went and it works very well. Some Yamaha av receivers have phono input

This is one such example that appeared locally that I spotted. It's likely no good to you as your probably in a different country, but it's an example

Thanks for the tips, which I will check out.

The phono input needs to allow direct connection of a turntable (ie. phono preamp built in).

Moving coil or moving magnet or both?

I prefer amps to do both as I don't like my choice of future cartridges to be restricted by the amplification that I have.
