Morning

I currently have the Onkyo CS-515 running through some Q Acoustics 1020 speakers. Would an upgrade to a budget separates from the likes of Nad or Cambridge Audio make a big difference or would it just be marginal?

Your comments would be very helpful.

Have a good day.

Whilst it would be an improvement, I'm not sure it would make £300 worth of difference. The next real step up IMHO would be in the £200-250 per unit bracket (making somewhere around £550-600 including interconnects and speaker cable).

Something like the Marantz PM6002 or Rotel RA04 with something like the Marantz CD6002. Your speakers would then be the weakest link, but certainly won't disgrace themselves with this level of kit.

That's kinda what I thought, at that next step up would I need to be looking at speaker upgrades or do you think the Q Acoustic 1020's should hold their own?

Oh, and thanks for your response.

No worries - always happy to witter on about hifi!

I would probably say that you would probably want to be replacing them soonish - that system will be capable of the likes of Dali Lektor 1 and 2s, MA RS1s, B&W 685s etc and combined with any of these will give a fantastic sound. Which speakers entirely depend on your taste though...
