Hi still looking for an power amp to drive some kef model 2 reference speakers. Have the chance on a Bryston 9b sst . What are they like ? In hifi terms ? I know a lot of people use them in av situations. What are they like compared to a Audiolab mb mono block ? I've just bought a audiolab cdq and will be using that as the pre amp, would I be better buying the audiolab mb or a bryston 9b system ? Both are nearly the same price ?

I'd buy it. Assuming it has been well looked after and people that buy these normally do. Not without reason do they come with a 20 year warranty. Originally costing $6500 this amp was said by some to favour the higher frequencies but would be well suited to your speakers I would say.

I assume it is the five channel amp you are looking at and not the rarer monoblock.

I'd take it over the audiolab any day of the week.

It's probably been around for a while but think they were first made in 2008 so should have some transferable warranty left. :)

Hi it's a 3channel version , which would be great to as I would be also using it as a power amp on my pioneer. Lx 87. My pioneer says 220 watt per channel and I would be replacing it with 140 watt into 8 ohm is that a logic move ?

Not at all sure why you'd want a 3 channel power amp on a 9.2 channel AV receiver but whatever. Hardly best way to drive it I would say.

I thought you were using a CDQ as preamp which should be fine.

Keep the two systems separate.

Thanks, I have a pioneer. Lx 87 av receiver which I use with a set of thx speakers.

Bought a pair of kef reference model 2 speakers which will replace the kef thx tdm 23f front left and right.

i will be using the audiolab cdq as a pre amp in two channel stereo.

The pre out left and right of the pioneer av amp will go into the cdq and with ht bypass will be run by the " new power amp" and power the kef reference speakers. If I buy the bryston the other spare channel will be fed a pre out from pioneer centre channel .

So in the end for stereo I will be using the audiolab cdq and new power amp and kef reference model 2s.

For av use I will be using the pioneer with the front left, right and centre, power amped with the " new bryston" leaving the pioneer to power the remaining rear speakers, at present I use only the pioneer in 5.1 mode thanks

I've had a top of the range pioneer receiver and now the 5 channel version of the 9BSST.
There is literally no comparison in these amplifiers. The pioneers are good the bryston
are studio quality

Look up the specs on the bryston.
It does full power mine is rated at 160w rms on the included test sheet at 0.0005 %THD.

Most other av type amps especially reveivers are no where near that at half power.

Be mindful of its amplifying what your giving it in terms quality but you won't be dissapointed if you do

I see. In that case, if you can get it, go for that Bryston.
