Brand matching...?

I use a Cambridge Audio Azure 640R AV receiver as a hub for my stereo music, TV and Dvd watching and have an assortment of speakers in a 5.1 set-up. These include a pair of ageing MS10i stereo speakers and Mission centre and rears for surround sound.

I'm considering upgrading my stereo speakers and was wondering what the members think about brand matching ie. are there benefits to be gained from getting a pair of Cambridge Audio speakers to match up with my AV Receiver or does it not really matter? Is it more important to focus on getting a good quality pair of speakers that suit the amps nature rather than having same brand components? Also what sort of price range should I be looking at in relation to my set-up?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions folks...

It will depend on what sounds best to you & how you want to talior the sound. Yes products from same company will usually work best together, but may not necessary give you the sound your looking for. It's always best to audition first if you can. Better still at home. If am correct the Cambrigde Audio 640 was out quite a few years back. If anything I would get the Q AcousticsConcept 20's, would be major improvement over your current speakers.

You can always put together a system around the Q Acoustics if you decide to upgrade your amp in future. Always audition first. Others may which to make suggestions.

Thanks for your input Native Bon, much appreciated. After careful consideration and alot of research, I have placed an order for a pair of white Wharfdale 220's. Unfortunately here in Ireland we are very limited in hifi outlets and unless you live in Dublin (which I don't) it's difficult to avail of the luxury of auditioning, so for the first time ever I've bought a pair of speakers on spec and reviews and trust that I've made a good decision...The Q Acoustic Concept 20's were just a bit beyond my price range and I like the aesthetics of the traditional box type speaker but have compromised a little by going for the more fashionable white box lol !!

Will keep you posted when I get them Wednesday...thanks again.
