Bowers and Wilkins MT30 bought... Now which Receiver?

Hi All,

After my original thought of buying the Kef 3005se's and pairing them with the Yamaha 1067 i upped my budget and went for the B&W MT30's after hearing them.

Ive read that you need to be careful as bright sounding kit can send them over the edge sometimes. So if anyone can recommend a suitable receiver for these id be grateful.

My Budget is around £1000

Regards

I have always liked them with Pioneer amps, i would look at the Pioneer 52/53 or 72/73 amp, they would be my choice.

I run my MT30s from an old Onkyo receiver. Modern equivalent would be the NR808, and it's bang on your £1000 budget.

No signs of any brightness or hardening of sound even when the volume gets to silly levels.

You can get the 808 for about £750 now.

Or the Pioneer 53 for about £850 (with free LX54 blu ray player). And that's why i'm waiting for the courier to knock on my door as we speak...

I have my MT30 connected through a Denon 2311. It's fantastic. You have a bigger budget than I was working with so why not give the Denon 3311 a demo? I know this sounds amazing too. No issues with brightness, they partner extremely well together.

Hi,

I have M1 speakers partnering a REL Strata powered by a Pioneer VSX-LX54. Listened to a Yamaha before final decision and chose the Pioneer. Had a listen to a Denon the week before at another dealership and didn't like the way it sounded with music through the HDMI cable. Sounded very bright.

Definitely recommend an audition with the Onkyo, Yamaha and Pioneer amps mentioned.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Hi Wiresparky

yamaha's RX-V2067 or the RX-V3067 are also worth a look. The MT30's will form an excellent tonal match with either of these two AV receivers

With the sort of tonal control receivers have nowadays, there's no real serious mismatches any more, only preferences. I've never really found the MT satellites to be offensive sounding or too laid back, so will suit most AV receivers. The Denon and Yamaha ones tend to be slightly more laid back and warmer, and the Pioneer and Onkyo a little less laid back - all personal preference - see if you can have a listen to a few and choose which one you like the most.

Save your cash and listen to the denon 2311 its more than enough for the M1 sats, these are selling fast at £450 or alternatively listen to the yamaha 1067 which i believe is £620 ish, i have heard both and both are excellent, but have a demo on both if you can.
