Hi I've got a new Sony STRD2400es (brought in Nov but only now tryiny to get working as finally had room built) connected to a Boston Soundware XS speaker system. However, I can't get the sub to work. I'm fairly sure the cable is OK and the sub is OK but can't get the amp to recognise that its connected.

Any easy tests I can try to 1. Check the sub? 2. Check the Amp? rather than carting it all off to the local shop.

Any tips on configuration, in case I'm missing something obvious. I expected it to be plug and play!!

I've now tried a differnt sub and a different cable from another setup and its made no difference so its either something obvious I'm missing in the setup or a faulty amp.

Any suggestions appreciated

You have run the auto-calibration? Did it show any errors ?

Not being funny but are you 100% sure you have the sub lead plugged into the correct socket ?

Just a thought.

Doh ... It appears I am an idiot. I had it plugged into the sub connector for the multi channel output and not the pre-amp sub output. Few at least i can now start enjoying it without the worry of dealing with Amazon's return policy and not being able to get hold of another 2400es

out of curiosity what would the multi channel outputs be used for?

Thanks for the help.

They're actually a multichannel analogue input, not output. You'd use them if you had a player with matching outputs and you wanted to use its internal decoding rather than that on the Sony amp.

For example, you could use those inputs to hook up an SACD player, or a 3D player if you wanted to connect its video output directly to a TV to get round the fact the Sony can't pass through 3D video.
