I'm afraid I'll be asking a lot of questions over the next few weeks as I try to get my head around what I should have as my set up in my new flat that I move into in August. Today speakers.

I own a set of Bose Acoustimas 10 speakers from the late 1990's. How do these compare to the modern day offerings? I assume that they have been surpassed by far cheaper high street equivalents. I will be upgrading to a high def set up, so will I be wasting my money if I dont replace the speakers?

I've read this months magazine and I've heard good things about the KEF 2005.2 but like the neatness and look of the Q Acoustics QAV. However, the sound bar thing scares me. Will I lose the sense of "surround" if the front speakers are not several metres apart? Or does that not matter if the screen is say 40 inches wide (hence similar speaker seperation on the bar) and I'm sitting approx 3 metres away?

What are my Bose speakers worth on the second hand market?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Hi there

Most people on this forum are of agreement that most Bose stuff, whilst good, isn't of a quality you could get pound for pound. Thus, you can probably do better than them with the systems you mention. Personally, I can't shrug off the belief that a true 5.1 setup can't be beaten by any pseudo-surround sound devices, including the QAV's front sound bar. However, I haven't heard the QAV system, so it's unfair of me to comment on them in that respect. Obviously, WHF rated them highly enough to win the Group test in this month's issue against the KEF's, so they are definitely worth an audition to see what you think!

Thanks guys

Has anyone out there heard the Q-AV in action? If so, please post a comment.

Thanks
