Bose Acoustimass 10 speaker compatibility issues

I'm currently having issues setting up a new amp with my current Bose Acoustimass 10 speakers. The amp is a Marantz NR1601 and it shuts down with the bose speakers connected. After speaking with marantz support and surfing the web it looks like the Bose speakers are not compatible. Has anyone had issues conecting Bose to Marantz amps and how did you fix it. At present it looks like I have the option of changing the amp or speakers!

Ther won't be any compatibility problems with the Acoustimass speaker system - it works in the same way as any other speaker system except for the "umbilical" cable that runs from e recover to the bass module.

Does the amp shut down when no cables are connected to it? If not, then there's either a problem with the speaker system itself, or something's not quite being connected properly.
