Blueray player as a CD player

I have a separate hifi and cinema system. Recently i have been playing some CD's back to back on both systems and also in one case where i have 2 copies of the same CD, together and switching system to system for a better comparison.

I must say that the cinema system surprised me at how close it is to the hifi system. Ok they sound different(speakers for sure), each i would say have some plus points over the other, but considering the price difference, it is hardly night and day and i must admit i would be pretty satisfied with the cheaper cinema system.

The new blueray players are cheap and play a mean movie, but why don't we consider them for the front end for good hifi system ?

The Cinema system is the Sony BD360, Denon 1910, both top award winners with Mission 753's as the front left and right speakers.

The Hifi is an Usher CD-7, Wadia 12 DAC, Exposure XV11 pre, XV111 power, through Usher Be-718 speakers

Both systems have good cables etc.

I have the Denon 1909 and Sony BDP S350 for AV use and a Pioneer A400 and Marantz CD63SE for HiFi use, both using Dynaudio DM 2/7 speakers.... the difference between these 2 set ups for playing cd's is most definately night and day.

So if a blueray player is the new generation and state of the art player for playing movies, which includes music and voice in the soundtrack, what is the reason that such technology is inferior to the old technology lasers that are used in CD players?

As i said my 2 systems sound very different, night and day perhaps, but to say that the quality of the sound differs is night and day is not correct.

Of course i could be tone deaf after trying to hear significant differences in components over the past 30 years.
