Does anyone know if companies like Cambridge Audio or NAD have a player in development for either Blue Ray or HD-DVD? I am interested in upgrading my home cinema, and would like to avoid buying components from multiple companies, and have been looking at Cambridge Audio's product. With Warner's decision at CES, I was wondering if some of these higher end companies have plans to go Blue Ray now, I know that Denon has one in the works, but I haven't heard anything about NAD or Cambridge etc. As a consumer it would be nice to know. Who's backing what?

Unless you've been completely unplugged from online news aggregation sites or the blogosphere, you've probably heard that Hollywood's biggest DVD seller, Warner Bros, announced last week that beginning in March it will pull its backing of Toshiba's HD DVD format and produce its movies exclusively on Sony's Blu-ray format. Warner Bros already accounts for about 70% of Blu-ray content, according to some published reports.

Blu-ray is now backed by Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and, of course, Warner Bros, among others. HD DVD is now only supported by Universal Studios and Paramount and its DreamWorks Studios. Things don't look good for HD DVD's longevity. And, in a way, that's too bad.
go 4 blu ray mate

go 4 blu ray mate[/quote] shame that the only fully compliant BR player is a games console. Unlikely anything from any of the HiFi camps till things are full sorted.

We saw both Cambridge Audio and NAD at the show, and neither has any immediate HD player plans.

A big problem for a lot of the 'hi-fi' companies is exactly that - gettting these things to sound any good when you play a CD, as well as looking and sounding superb with DVD and HD movie discs. They know their customers are going to expect decent music playback, and that doesnt' seem available at the affordable end of the market just yet.

Rest assured that we'll be bringing you any HD-related news as soon as we hear it!

I think later this year, news will start to filter through. The format war is beginning to lean towards a clear winner. I think by the end of the year the 'war' may well be over. A lot of the smaller specialist companies have had to sit on the fence and wait for there to be a clear winner. They don't have the financial resources to change their manufacturing process if they back the wrong horse. It would hit them very hard financially.
