Not yet in the UK (Blu-ray recorders exist in Asia/Pacific), but it's rumoured we'll be seeing the first European Blu-ray recorders previewed at the huge IFA consumer electronics show later this month. Not sure they'll be in shops this year, though....

Do you know why not? I spoke to Pioneer at the Bristol show and they said they couldn't persuade Pioneer Japan to bring them to the UK. This seems rather crazy with Freesat now broadcasting HD. I currently use a Pioneer PVR and am looking to replace it with a Freesat PVR with built-in disc recorder. But if I record a programme in HD I'm not going to be able to archive it to dvd. Does this mean that the only viable solution is a multimedia PC with some sort of streaming? If so, do you know of any Freesat PC Tuner cards coming along? Given that you can buy a PC blu-ray recorder for £150 I don't get what the issue is? Is the UK too smaller market or something? Speaking of Freesat, do you know if Sony or Panasonic have any plans for Freesat PVR? Wouldn't it be great if we could get one box that plays blu-ray, records to hard disk, and streams video, with another box that does DAB/FM/Internet radio and audio streaming? Why do they expect us to have separate solutions for all these? One is all video and the other is all audio... it seems so obvious!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe that is just too logical! I'm currently thinking that the best way of watching my video podcasts on my TV is to transfer them to dvd and put them in my video player. How sad is that when the technology should be there?
