Blu ray player query

Hi a quick query. I have an old tv a Sony 40w2000 which was the old hd ready 1080i tvs before the full hd 1080p ones . Was thinking bout buying a Blu ray player in sales . Is it worth buying one with the tv I have ? As it doesn't show the full res of Blu ray . Cheers
