Bit Rates, please explain.

Hello, i've been ripping a few cd's to itunes this evening and noticed varying bit rates next to each song. The bit rates range from 256 kbps to 1120 kbps and everything in between. My question is, will these varying rates produce a quality that is different evan though there all apple lossless?

Not an issue with quality if they are lossless, the variable bit rates just reflect the complexity/lack off detail in the music.

My lowest bit rate lossless music is by Mozart and my highest is Blondie. It must be something in the recording.
