Hi guys, I recently bought a Sony KDL-40EX503 TV which is spot on for video.

The problem is the sound; it's pretty poor.

My question is what's the most straightforward way of improving the sound without spending buckets of money? I'm not too bothered about surround sound or anything complicated.

I've a Humax, Sky HD and a Panasonic DVD player all connected.

Any help would be appreciated.

A couple of stereo speakers and a stereo amp will do the trick. The amp probably wont have a optical digital input, so you will need a Scart out plug and feed the stereo pair to the amp.

Hi Clare,

Thought aout £160 ish. Does that sound do-able?

This Sharp 3.1 channel sound bar (£147) seems to get good reviews on amazon.

Theres also this PS3 surround bar (£150) which might do the job.

IIRC the 503 has stereo phono outputs on the back so no need for the scart adapter.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your help; the Sharp Soundbar sounds (sic) like the answer.

Perhaps look for a Sony solution re remote compatibility.
