Hi,

I'm currently connecting my Asus xonar D2 to my cambridge audio 540A via a 3.5mm to RCA cable. I'm just wondering if there's a better way to do this? My speakers are CA S30's btw.

I'm interested in how much gain in sound quality i would get from a CA DAC magic as i've heard good things about it but i'm not really convinced.

Or would i be better off using the S/PDIF out on my sound card? Also if i got a CD player with a built in DAC could i use that from my sound card to run my music through the DAC?

Thanks for any help guys.

what I would do is totally different.

I would buy a Squeezebox Touch and use that to play the music on the Asus. it will also allow you to play any internet radio.

then later buy a suitable NAS that you can run Squeezecenter on. (or you can use a powered hard drive attached to the Touch directly).

Bingo you don't need the PC on. and you can play back your music with a player that has DACs as good as if not better than a DAC magic.
