Hi all,

Have had the V+ box installed about 1 month now and overall I am very happy.

Just wondered what settings the folk on this forum with this service, thoughts are on giving the best results?

For instance 720, 720wide, 1080, or 1080 wide?

The engineer who installed it said that Virgin was only broadcasting on 720 so set it to that.

Many Thanks

Hi I've had a V+ box for a year and mine is set to 720 wide, although my TV is full 1080, what I found was that although the broadcast images both SD & HD work fine at 1080 wide, the problem is with the on screen menu's which look slightly blurred so much so that I can't look at them, this is my own experience, try setting it to 1080 wide and see what you think yours might be fine, you can always change it back.

I have mine set to 720p wide running on a full hdtv. My logic behind this was that 720 "actual" lines is a better definition than 1080i, which is simply 540 lines split and then the gaps filled, or interlaced hence the i.

Therefore you are actually seeing more detail with the 720p, again thisis my personal view agree with AC Milan reference the menus. The wide or standard only applies depending on if you have a widescreen TV or not.

I use the 1080 setting and live with the slightly blurry menus's as I think it gives a better picture on my wide screen TV. I tried the 1080 wide setting but didn't like the way it stretched programs that were not made in 16:9 to fit the screen ( i don't like seeing little fat men walking around when they should be slimmer). Hope this helps.

I tend to jump around a bit as my eyes get used to/irritated by the picture on a regular basis, but I usually end up with 720p after a while. Yes, the menus look terrible on 1080i and waaaay better on 720p. Also, some SD pictures look a whole lot less jagged on 720p. My assumption is that the progressive picture is generally better and that the 1080p TV will upgrade, so I'm getting the best of all possible worlds. And yes, avoid the 'wide' setting; your Tv should be able to see the correct ratio and adjust accordingly.
I just wish they did 1080p. Oh, and more HD. Loads more HD. SkyHD is looking increasingly tempting. Especially with the offers around at the minute.
