That post about best Blu-rays got me thinking, ok I admit to being a surround geek but I wondered whether any of you had any favourite surround effects?

I remember hearing the Death Star exploding on a LaserDisc copy of Star Wars about 15 years ago and being immediately caught by the home cinema bug.

Toy Story has some great surround sound - both subtle, and powerful (when the truck pulls into the gas station). The sound of toys running around the room is great!

A Tale of Two Sisters (Korean horror film) makes good use of the rear channels to spook you out: footsteps moving across the room behind you ...

I know its a terrible, terrible, terrible
movie, but the scene in XXX when Vin shoots a grappling hook from
behind you (VERY LOUDLY!) shocked the hell out of myself & the
missus. Thought our house was being broken into!

Terrible movie.

The score on Crash was particularly good, and I imagine Top Gun would work well if you like that Airshow experience - Iggle?

Plenty of choice here (most of mine seem to involve bullets / explosions)! lol

- The bullets hitting Dent's police van, creating a 360-degree effect, in The Dark Knight. Also the knackered Tumbler spinning from the distant right channel before landing (loudly) at the front.

- The explosion in Casino Royale's construction site chase - it starts off in the front channels, then moves through to the back with a huge 'whoosh!'. Really quite amazing.

- Innumerable scenes in the Jurassic Park DVD - an oldie and a goodie. A film made for surround sound, and a Blu-ray must-buy for me! I love watching my chandeliers shaking as the T-rex approaches! :)

Ratatouille - the old lady scene
Spiderman 3 - the first action scene
Hero - not sure how to describe the scene but it gets every speaker sounding and a great subwoofer climax when everything around the samurai collapses.

In 'The Bourne Identity' when he and the German girl return to his Paris apartment. He senses something isn't right (she's in the bathroom I think). There's a sound like someone has dropped a saucepan lid that circles around and around you. Nice effect.

House of Flying Daggers - The echo game near the beginning and subsequent fight, amazing

Master and Commander - Any battle or below-deck scene, incredible effects of the creaking ship and sea.

Cheers.

I canït believe no one has mentioned this one yet, so Iïm going to:

The tunnel scene in Die Hard: 4 when the car comes crashing over McLane, it had me ducking for cover. The helicopter crash following it is also pretty amazing.

Black Hawk Down was also pretty awesome throughout.

Just thought of another one - I AM LEGEND when the lion pounces on the deer - probably not the best effect ever but I just remember the look on my (3 yr old) sons face as he walked in at that moment and said "no like the nasty lion he ate Rudolf!"

...um if anyone works for social services that didn't really happen ok?! Ahem!

My favourite is from Apocalypse now, the B52 ArcLight raid when they're going up river in the boat. Both our dogs were running round the room looking up at the ceiling and very concerned.

If anyone works for the rspca etc...

I think most movie trailers have very exciting way of presentation to showcase surround channels.

My favourite movie trailers are : Hell Boy, Stealth, Cellular, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Cave, ..and many more..

If the producers sell out "collection of trailers" in DVD & BD, that would be great.
