What is the best upgrade that I can do to improve my system? Currently my system comprise of b&w 805s, avr hk 635, ca azur 640c v2, interconnect ca azur, and speaker cable qed anniversary xt.

Replace your AVR with a dedicated stereo amplifier (whether integrated or separates).

id say dedicated amp and new cd plyer. your speakers are excellent, so no worrys there. they need some good amp driving them to really make them sing.

what is your available budget?

Budget 1k but it depends if I need to add more to my budget if the upgrade is worth it. Is it better if I go for the amp than the cd player? And what brands are match with the 805s? Tnx.

Is it better If I go to a pre/power route than integrated? And do I need a lot of power?Tnx.

If you don't really play loud and don't use it for a huge space, then you don't really need much power. However, since you have very revealing speakers, it is best to feed them with a high quality signal.

With 1k GBP, check out integrated amp options from Roksan, Cyrus, Naim and Arcam (depending on what sort of sound you want). You can upgrade the CDP later on.

It's hard to find a pre/power combo with that budget, as I can only think of Rotel and NAD. Unless you need the extra power to fill a big room or play loud, I'd rather put the money on quality.

Hi,

I agree the first upgrade would be to get a dedicated amp. I had that cd player and I found it nicely detailed but a bit to clinical for my tastes - on my system anyway.

Do you feel your system is lacking something? I could imagine your system would probably be on the brighter side of neutral - with the cd and cabling you have - I may be wrong though.

What kind of sound signiture do you want - a more warm sound or more open etc. As your source and amp will probably give you a certain kind of sound that you maybe wanting.

The B&W 805's are nice speakers.

Cheers

Steve.

My system is on the brighter side and I feel I miss something on my speakers especially on the bass. I think my amp can not drive them at their potential. I heared this speakers on one of my friends and his using an arcam solo and they sound superb to it. How about bryston amp or naim pre/power?

Amp first then CD player. Depending on the budget but to make the 805S sing as nice as they possibly can then I would go for big-ish watts amp around £1,500.
