Frankly, I've colosally underestimated what e-bay means to some.

To your second paragraph: I do not believe that many on this forum consider reselling value when choosing their speakers. I would not.

To your third one: I do not think speakers I was looking at - MA Silver 8 and Tannoy Rev xt 8 - "have all fundamental flaws when it comes to sound quality".

One mans fundamental flaw is anothers x-factor of perfection.

I think plenty of us do consider re-sale value when we buy. I for one (and many on here) know well enough that one day I will have an itch to scratch and will be trading up/sideways/downwards/whatever.

It's the products you are potentially buying.

ive bought items from a variety of websites, gumtree for the CD player, what hifi forum for my amp, EBay for the atacama rack, nintronics for the speakers, and hifi corner n the Netherlands for the turntable, richer sounds for speaker cable. Not one of these websites had anything to do with the quality of the purchase. Or the goods.

I took a chance on some purchases, and my setup is all the better for it.

whats life without risk? Bloody boring.

Thank you all for you thoughts and recommendations. So it turns out I have the best in laws ever. They have just given me a pair of barely used Acoustic energy AE2s and a Miller and Kreisel mx 70 sub. I have just connected them to my Denon Poa 2400 power amp with my Pra 1200 pre amp and they sound amazing.

So it turns out I have the best in laws ever. I have wanted to start building a proper system for years but always packed the funds to do so but my inlaws shave very kindly just given me a system that they never used. They have just given me a pair of barely used Acoustic energy AE2s and a Miller and Kreisel mx 70b sub and to power the speakers they have also given me a Denon Poa 2400 power amp and Denon Pra 1200 pre amp aling with a Denon dsd 910 CD player and Denon Tu 550 tuner. This system might all be from the 90s but it's in mint condition and I couldn't be happier.
