Which of these two £300 hi-fi systems sounds the best? (I have the DM37 but am just curious as the CS515UK was apparently very good and was then discontinued)
I notice I have no replies, but was just curious if anybody has tried both these systems or which system what hi-fi feels is the best sounding? (Both have received 5 stars)
Not heard the DM37 but I have the 515 replacement the 525 which I bought minus the speakers for a very good price. stuck on some tannoy MX2 speaker that I was going to put on ebay,I am keeping these now as the little system sounds quite musical at low to moderate levels, best for background music though as the sound hardens when the volume is high.I wouldnt call it hifi.
Hi I own the Onkyo you are considering, I recently upgraded to seperates (NAD C320BEE & Squeezebox) but I use the same speakers for both, the little Onkyo punches well above its weight, very musical.
I had the CS515 as a main system for a while and it was what got me thinking about sound quality and enjoying my music again. for a mini system it sounds great and even the speakers it came with were good. I saw it floating about as a end of line item in currys not that long ago at £150 so they may have a few left, you would have to phone around individual stores though as they do not show up online. Can not comment on the denon but the prior model was a bit heavy in the bass department for me.
I had a CS515UK for quite a while and had a Denon DM30 before that. The Onkyo was considerably better than the Denon. Those Onkyo micros are fantastic for their price and size.
chainrock:For the same money as DM37, CS725 can be had now, which i think is a better machine.
I demoed both and preferred the sound of the Onkyo 725, plus it has more inputs and the build quality felt more solid. Onkyo's stuff also seems to be coming down in price while everything else goes up at the moment.
