I have a Denon 2310 with the MT-30 speaker package; I have had this setup for a while now but still don't think I have the best settings. When I am listening to sky music channels and put the amp on the Pure Direct or Music setting it sounds terrible, i.e. really flat. But if I put it on the DTS cinema setting it sounds good, surely the Pure direct or the music setting should sound better for music channels. Any suggestions on what settings I should use?

Al2009,

I have personally never found 'Pure Direct' to be anything but dull on all my amps.

I only ever use it when I want a muted sound from my front channels.

Ronald,

Thanks for your reply, but surely the music setting should be alot better for music channels than the cinema setting?

The MT-30 is effectively a sub-sat system designed for movies, not music and, I might be wrong but I think putting the system into Pure Direct mode shuts off the subwoofer, so you'll be losing quite a lot of bass.

I really wouldn't bother for the sake of a music channel on TV to be honest.

My Denon 2310 is set up with the KEF 3005SE speakers, so a similar setup to your own. I don't use it for music at all really but my girfriend does sometimes. I find just using the 5 channel stereo set up the best for music. This setting seems to engulf the room in sound much better than just the front L/R channels. You also get the sub chipping in with the bass as well which helps. Give it a go and see what you think.

Have you used the menu step to set up the amp in 2CH Direct/Stereo?

You need to change the setting to custom in this menu step. You need to change output signal to sub to lfe+main in this menu step otherwise no signal will be sent to sub as bass management is turned off in pure/direct.

However when using pure/direct the sat speakers are getting sent the whole signal regardless so to be wary of really bass heavy tracks as crossover management is turned off in this mode.
