Best New Albums of 2025

Only bought one all year. Those Damn Crows - God Shaped Hole. Expanded Edition. Signed.
Had high hopes that Greta Van Fleet live at the Royal Albert Hall would see the light of the day, but apparently not. Have they split up? Nobody knows. Will Jake release anything with Mirador?
Crown Lands? The Tea Party? Alter Bridge? Vambo have split up. Hoping Oli Brown has something out later in the year as he's touring. It seems everyone is having a year off!

New albums only, not ones you just bougfht this year.

Turnstile - Never Enough

Matt loves Turnstile. This album feels like a continuation from the last, but I'm here for that all day. It's amazing to hear how far they've come & still making new york hardcore sound mainstream 😎

I've been listening to the new Springsteen lost albums today. A lot of really good stuff & surprised by how folk-heavy it is.

I liked their 2021 album but then forgot about them until this new one came out. I've now listened to their two earlier albums and one sounds like they're trying to be Rage Against the Machine. Even the drummer sounds like Brad Will on that album.

Inbetween the albums they released a jazz ep with badbadnotgood. A bitt challenging for me, but worth a listen.

As the drums, New York hardcore was/is a street-based thing. The scene grew up right alongside rap & hop-hop in 80s-90s downtown Manhatten.

Visiting Rachmaninoff (Alexander Melnikov and Julia Lezhneva)
Schubert D959 & Moments Musicaux (Steven Osborne)
GoGo Penguin - Necessary Fictions
Mumford & Sons - Rushmere
Voces8 - 20
Doves - Constellations for the Lonely
Kate Rusby - When They All Looked Up
Deacon Blue - The Great Western Road

Liszt - Piano Sonata etc. (Daniel Grimwood)
Sophie Pacini - Bittersweet
Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique (Orchestre de Paris, Klaus Mäkelä)
Tom Lyne - Well Mixed Blue
Joshua Redman - Words Fall Short

Biggest disappointment: Steeleye Span - Conflict. I've been a huge fan and seen them live multiple times across the years, but their new album is just naff, unfortunately. Atrociously bad recording as well.

This came out today, lovely vibe & perfect timing summer album

Not been a stellar year for me so far, but here's some highlights:
Matt Berniger - Get Sunk
Samia - Bloodless
Matt Maltese - Hers
Haim - I Quit
Ben Kweller - Cover the Mirrors
Press Club - To All the Ones I l Love
Turnstile - Never Enough

Looking forward to Big Thief & Wolf Alice albums later this year.

Oh, and a nice anniversary remaster of a modern classic also out today that sounds pretty lovey.
