Hello. I have MA RS6 speakers with Arcam AVR350. I need to buy a cd player with mp3 reading also.

What do you recommend?

Thanks

Do you think its the best choice? Because the DAC is not exactlly cheap...its not worth just to buy a separate cd unit?

What are your opinions about the DAC?

Thanks

please, give me some help. Just want to know if its good idea to buy CA DAC to use with my oppo 981, or instead just buy a separate cd unit.

Thank you

Benefits are the DacMagic is a small, neat, little box of tricks. You won't need to add another full size component. The sound from the DM with your Oppo will beat any cd player under £400 and it costs £229. And if you connect it to your pc and send lossless files, it will beat most cd players up to around the £1k mark.

Thanks!

And what about the comparison with Beresford TC-7510 and TC-7520?

I heard many people prefer the beresford...

tx

I've heard quite a few who love their Beresford and two that have tried both Beresford and DM and liked the Beresford more. There are also many many DM lovers (this mag preferred the DM over the Beresford 7510) and another mag made the DM product of the year. I've only heard the DM. It is brilliant. I liked the idea of buying from a reputable brand, it looks like a piece of HiFi (the Beresford looks a bit home made LED unit like - Sorry Chebby - I admit I've not seen one up close and personal) and it offered me the chance to use my XLR inputs on my amp.

Steady on though lads - seeing as he has a DAC in his Arcam, he'd be better off (well, cheaper, anyway) using that, if he's only gonna have a modest dic player. I think his first request is probably the right one (though the Oppo might already be the answer, frankly, if it plays mp3 discs).

No, Im saying that the Oppo you have, plugged into the digital input of your Arcam receiver, ought to give you reasonable results already, and that spending lots of money on a dedicated CD player wouldn't give you that much improvement.

Just IMO.

da_grudge:But with the digital input I cant have the direct stereo mode, right? It§ s supposed to produce the best sound, this mode...

In theory yes, that's correct, but you're balancing an improved DAC against a straight signal path, and with your setup I'd probably take the former swing over the latter roundabout.

The only way to be sure, though, is to compare the two. Any way you could beg or borrow a budget CD player - though not the Cambridge, it doesn't do mp3 - and compare? Alternatively, take your entire setup to a dealer (NAD or Marantz are the first mp3-friendly brands that spring to mind) and see if a budget CD player via stereo direct can beat your Oppo via digital into your AVR. I'd be quite surprised if it did.

I will see if I can do it. I just tried to connect through optical cable and it does sound much better. Much more clear.

Thank you so much.

Tidy advice from JD (he does work there!) and I should also add that your speakers are capable of shaking hands with much better amplification. The Arcam receiver is very nice but a stereo amp would give you a much much better sound. I suppose what John meant earlier is that with your receiver, spending out another £200 or more on a DAC or cd player would not give you massive results, although if you went for the DacMagic and a stereo amp, you would get a massive improvement.
