This is under budget and something of a no-brainer in my view:

If I hadn't recently bought a dedicated CDP, I'd buy one myself.

Im looking to buy a BD player upto about £400 which would be the best for sound quality playing mainly cds and Sacds.

A bit over budget, but I think it does everthing you want it to, and WHF readers get a discount, although in the latest mag I think the deal changed a little:

You did!

The 651's remote is a poorly laid out, but you could buy the BDP and a universal remote and still have change from £400.

That's what I'd do, anyway. £299 is a knockout price for the 651.

Good deal! I hadn't seen that one.

Yes good spot strapped.. I might even go for that over the pioneer 450 8)

FWIW, I think that's an extremely sensible call. The 450 is simply too glitchy.

Moreover, while the Pioneer looks robust, it's relatively flimsy. The 651 is bomb-proof by comparison.

Well I went all the way to Watford some 50 miles away to buy a CA 651 and it did not work, fotunately I tried in the store before buying it. Also the other CA651 did not work either, so a wasted journey. Also ex-display means it does not come with remote or anything which I did not know.

That's pretty poor, that's not my idea of ex display. What the **** have they done with the remote?!

You can buy a brand new one here for £450:

Comes with a remote too.

I don't know what they do with the remotes, seem to use universal ones in the demos. £450 is too much that why I went to RS because they were £299. I may as well buy the CA751 for £550, however with 2 player failures has put me off a bit. Also the Pan 500 froze up on one track. The Marantz 5007 does look tempting. At the oment I not sure what to do I think I will keep my Marantz 63SE and maybe buy a cheaper DVD player.

If it was me I think I would buy the Marantz 7007:

You see a lot of refurbished Cambridge Audio Blu-ray players on eBay!

Something like this is probably a good choice too:
