I have both, but only using the PF40 at the moment. It works well for my needs and has cleaned up my mains very well.

I pulled out both my PF30 and Tacima to compare over the weekend for a bit of fun. As my mains is generally noise-free, I put the washing machine on (guaranteed to generate a lot of mains noise!), and used a PureAV Noise Sniffer to compare which worked better - the Tacima did a fair job at reducing the mains noise (but didn't eliminate it), but with the PF30 it was eerily quiet! So with that simple yet inconclusive test, the PF30 wins hands down!

Stu31 - you have both the PF30 and PF40 too - which do you use and why?

Does anybody use the HC socket for their AV receiver?

Do you notice any differences between using this HC socket and a normal wall socket?

Hi

I use them both the PF40 is in my av rack with the amp into the HC socket and i'm using the HC socket on the PF30 for my sub.

When i initially used the PF40 on my old onkyo 606 i heard a noticable improvement in music but less so for the home cinema side of things.

I then stopped using the PF40 for a week, while i had it in the shed and sprayed it satin black to match my set up

(looks great now) and really noticed it wasn't there !
Pictures although still good were carrying just a bit too much noise especially the usual suspects on freeview!

Set my new yamaha up on saturday and thought i'd use the PF30 on my sub rather than leaving it in a box (only got it for a spare)
I really cranked it up yesterday had the amp at -15 for dire straight brothers in arms sacd and it sounded excellent really open throughout the range, home cinema aswell so a massive thumbs up from me.

When I get the time i'm going to plug into the normal audio socket and try again just to see if I can hear any differences.
I was going to try power lead upgrades on all my kit but ain't going to bother now as i'm already happy with what i've got.

So that was the item wanted to spray when you were deciding between gloss or satin black

I am using a PF30 but nothing for my sub. What is the difference between the 30 and 40 ? And are they exactly the same height - it needs to squeeze under a stand !

Does the 40 give more info? More outputs?

Cheers

The PF40 is a larger unit, with more outputs, including digital specific. It wouldn't squeeze into a small space. That's assuming you can get one!

There are some PF40s around, there are some on eBay, mostly at Buy it Now (£100 or £150), and one an auction that was standing at £1.24...

www.micomonline.co.uk have 6 in stock at £104.58

As ESP2009 says, the PF30s are much smaller, in fact 2xPF30s are pretty much the size of 1xPF40. There is a PF50, which is the same size as a PF40.

Makes you wonder how many of the eBay items were purchased cheap by profiteering so-and-sos to make a quick buck or three? Grrrrr! Wish my mind worked that way!

I got one on ebay last week for about £40 from a company, they had two at the time. Haven't got it yet, it's sitting in a parcel force depot at the moment!

been using a pf40 now for approx 2 weeks now, and icannot believe how much the sound stage sounds so much clearer, when you get over the initial shock off how big the unit is,it is the best £40 i have spent on improving the sound off my hifi, i realise not everyone will get the same improvements, depending on the mains where you live. The downside is the sockets on the rear of the unit are not exactly the best of fittings, but apart from that it is staying at the bottom of my rack

Mmmm - thanks for info. Guess the PF40 is overkill for just two subs but may get another PF30. I think the display is better on the PF40/50? I am pleased with my PF30. Will a sub benefit from a PF30?

Nice unit though I recon and cheap as chips.

Cheers

Bass is less muddled for me now but that maybe the new amp i've just changed to so i can't say for definate i'll do a few test when I get some time, i just wanted to upgrade from an ugly old single anti surge plug adaptor i had the sub plugged into.

In the manual it says you could use the HC socket for the sub so i thought that'll do me, job's a good 'un !

Stu31,

This is the best £20.00 I've ever spent on my AV equipment!

The unit is simply gorgeous and is a quality piece of kit and YES, it betters the Tacima for both sound and picture, plus it just looks fantastic on my rack.

I'm trying to get another but they appear to be sold out!

Hi all,

Bought myself 2 PF30s to replace a Pure AV 8 way block last week for £37.22 delivered - very pleased with myself! Great bits of kit and very well made and look so cool on the stand.

I linked them up over the weekend using the HC sockets for sub and amp and can defiinitely hear a noticeable improvement in music playback - so much more clarity and space to the music especially noticeable with SACD and the bass is much more refined and controlled.

The effect on video sources was not so pronounced - SD TV content is slightly better and HD TV has improved slightly. DVD playback is slightly better but I could not see any change in BR playback.

All in all a really worthwhile purchase at a bargain price.

Regards

Skiman

Well.... My PF50 arrived home today. To be precise, I brought it back, having got it on ebayon the weekend. This was a bit of a mistake, not the purchase, but the collecting in person. It's huge and heavy, nearly 13kg. The walk from the station to the seller's house took 5 or so minutes. The walk back took 20! I'm going to have some dinner and recover, and then I'm going to open up the box and have a play

So i've plugged everything (bar my sub) into the PF50 and plugged into the wall. First impressions: the picture on my Kuro off cable looks a little clearer and less noisy. A full test of sound and vision will have to wait for the weekend.

It is a solid piece of kit, isn't it, built like a tank - as my shoulders can attest to having carried it home. Having seen it's power cable, Mrs. Scene checked whether I was sure it didn't need three phase
emotion-3.gif
I'm glad I've got a big, solid AV cabinet. Was interested to watch the slight fluctuations in the voltage, especially the drop from 240.6 to 237.2 when Mrs. S put the kettle on...

Still got some setup tinkering to do (haven't we always), as I've set all the sockets to always on for the moment, as haven't quite worked out which devices need to switched. The pf50 allows for switching by bank of two sockets, with variable delays per bank, which is a step up from the pf40 and one of the reasons I got it.

Overall a definite
