Ok I've been given a stack of seperates but have no idea of their quality so was hoping some knowledgable heads here might know a thing or two.

Amps
Yamaha AX-400
Sony TA-FE20R

Speakers
Acoustic Energy AEGIS ONE
Technics SB-HD55A

IS any of this any good?

Sorry to be so dull, but trust your ears and then decide whether you think you can do better. Go to a shop and listen to a decent budget system and compare to what you have and then decide

of course yeah. i was just aking here, cos its a lot of wiring up and changing round to hear all the combinations (i also have tuners , cd players etc etc)

so was merely posting to see if anything stood out.

I would rather have 90% of the sound I want for free! than go out and spend two grand for perfection - im not in that financial place right now.

The AEs stand out, definitely. As for the amps, I believe the Yamaha has a laid back style, with the sony a bit more up front. Give both a go - that's the sort of fiddling that hifi nuts like us like to do!!!

What CD players do you have? Knowing which source you are using might make the decision on the amp for you...

There's a rubbish old grundig fine arts cd player, and a nice meaty Technics too. I got a DJ setup coming through the auxiliary too. which is A LOT of fiddling!
