I noticed last saturday night BBC were not transmitting 5.1 / 7.1 sound on the Rememberance Service from the Albert-Hall programme, was there a reason ? the picture quality was fantastic in HD, there were other programmes on the BBC without 5.1 / 7.1 sound on the HD channel.

BBC HD is very inconsistant in regards to how it transmits sound and it never really makes much sense. In general practice HD is transmitted in 5.1 but this is the BBC!

Glad to see other people having noticed the way BBC transmits.
THanks to all that replied

I always smile at the irony of having the watery blocks linky thing for BBC HD in glorious 5.1 and then reverting to stereo for the actual programme (Silent Witness, for example). ÿMind you, Silent Witness usually has a superb stereo soundtrack. ÿThere was an amazing sustained deep bass note last week!
