Pioneer PL-112D ...hmmm Ive just hooked up my new second hand pl-112d.....straight through the arcam delta 60 into the tannoy mercury f1s. As you may know the tannoys arent overly bassy, but when I played a record on this player the bass was unbelievable to the point where the cones/big tweeters are shaking and pulsating in and out extremely far and the amount of air being pushed out of the front facing holes is almost hitting me in the face...its almost like having air con. I got scared and turned it off. Thing is I mainly use this in a computer setup and cones dont visibly move in and out when im playing music this way and I can barely feel air out of the bottom holes. Is there something wrong with the record player or is this normal??? Sorry for the lack of lingo! Please advise. cheers

A lot of people say the F1's don't "do" bass. I guess it may be down to what you're driving them with and how large your listening area is, but I have no such problems with mine.

I have quite a small listening area and they're run through a Denon micro and the bass is just fine. Are you just maybe driving them a bit to loud?

Tarquinh:Please see your other thread.

If your're referring to my thread, that's what got me in to trouble. If not, confused.

Referring to the anwser in my other thread (sorry, ill post here because it gets more attention)

Thanks for your explanation, I have been adjusting the weight on the arm etc and its seems to have lessened the problem greatly.

It seems it was a problem with how it was setup as it seemd too weighted towards the actual vinyl and I realised whenever I knocked the arm it would also make the cones suddenly pop out quite extremely. I have fixed the problem anyway, but the actual sound is still very unclinical. Perhaps this is due to the fact that it is not a top of the range model and also because Im used to the sound I get from my pc setup.

I believe the cartridge is fairly old, can a new one brighten things up and if so which would you recommend? Also when you talk about phono stage etc is there some sort of gadget I can get to rectify that? Apologies I am a bit of a noob when it comes to proper record players!

Also just to rectify I didnt mean to say the F1s arent exhibiting any bass at all, far from it I am very happy with them as I am not a fan of over flattering bass....which is what my record player seems to be doing!
