Ok, i have a feeling this might have been covered before, but......Anyone know a good make of banana plugs, or would a bog standard set from, say, maplins, be just as good?

That's what I use (as well as Maplin's biwire speaker cable which is amazing to say the least!) - I use the "Profigold" branded ones. There are two versions - one version is fully metal and you essentially place the wire through it (no screwing needed). The other version has plastic covers and requires you to tighten a screw to ensure a firm connection.

Yeah, that's it! It really is just as good as extememly expensive stuff - I once had a demo of some Nordust Blue Heaven on my system and there was no difference to my ears! That said, upgrading the interconnect did make a big difference...
Terryff:Had a look at that cable. Looks pretty decent. Just checked and i am using qed qudos cable right now, think it was good in its day, if i recall....
Is it white? We have some white QED stuff on the system downstairs - seems pretty good!
Yes and if you tap it against my wooden floor it kind of "chinks" strangely. I think i need to trim the ends and refit banana plugs, as the copper looks tarnished.

Same with mine! The other thing is, when I've got the Maplin speaker cable wired into the JVC (which doesn't have bannana clips) you have to be careful of short-circuiting because the wire is so thick it nearly goes from the + terminal to the - terminal!
Terryff:Ah! I had a problem with it in my Pioneer AV amp, rubbish spring clips that the wire was almost too fat for..
Brings me back to the old days when I had my Sony 5.1 set-up! Because my old JVC speakers had the wire actually connected to the cross-over, to extend the wire, I just got another bit of bell wire and stuck it together with some duct tape. Forget oxygen-free copper and your shielding, this was surround on a budget! If someone had told me then you could spend £3k on a 1m strip of speaker cable I would have thought they were making it up!
Brings up the age old debate about expensive cables, really. Can't bring myself to believe another cable would improve over this (relatively) inexpensive qed stuff, would love to be proved wrong....but thats in that "other" thread...ÿ

Thanks, i'll have to give it a go. i need some cable but really can't believe that £15 or £20 per meter will make that much difference. With my free interconnects i think i have as good as i'll ever need in that department.
