B&W P7

Just treated myself to some, new to headphones and impressed with my AKG 550's but as listen to mostly dance/electronic music i wanted better bass.

should I put my 550's on ebay now or wait until my B&W's come first...... Ha ha.

Very different kind of sound. Those two headphones are good representatives of different ends of the spectrum (of users, that is), and you may want to keep them both for awhile for comparisons with different recordings.

I recently got the P7's as a xmas present.

I tried them on recently and WOW! I was half listening (whilst doing work) to arcade fire's new song Reflektor which i have heard many a time, and all of a sudden I heard Bowie's voice in a part of the song I have never heard before. it was SO CLEAR! this is plugged into an iMac with no DAC!

My HiFi system also lets you hear his voice at that same point in the song but its far more discrete and difficult to spot. I had to search for it, whilst with the P7's it was right there in all its glory. still subtle but clear!

Very impressed so far. I compared to the H6 from B&O and whilst the H6 must be the comfiest i have ever worn and superbly clear, they lacked just a bit too much bass for my liking whilst the B&W had plenty and it was controlled.

Parrot Zik? I found them to be muddy and bass heavy. did not like.

Been listening to the B&W's for about an hour now and they sound great, just tried the AKG's and think someones turned the sub off! As good as the AKG's are i don't need two pairs so will be on ebay in the morning.

I too had the P7's for Christmas (nice one wife!) and must admit they are significantly better than my old AKG's. Portable enough for me to take them away to work and better 'soundproofing' as they are over-ears as compared to the on-ear AKG's. As such the sound quality is an order of magnitude better across the board. Although I do not like overly bassy headphones these have got it just right, neutral in most respects with no over-emphasis on any part of the spectrum. They are keeepers for sure.

Yep a few more days of listening and mine are keepers for sure too.! Great headphones.

How are you finding them for comfort in long listening sessions?

That's not supposed to be a leading question – I've not tried the P7s, but need something that won't cause me pain after 15-20 minutes of listening. I find my glasses get pressed into my head by then, so many otherwise great headphones are out.

Longest session thus far is 2 albums straight, so about an hour and half, no problems with that and they seem very well padded. They do sit quite tight to the ears/head so I don't know if wearing glasses could be an issue.

They are *very* snug, and may be uncomfortable for some users even without considering glasses. I would say if you've been bothered by a combination of glasses and headphones in the past, you'll likely be bothered by the P7 as well. But then there's the sound - some folks think it's worth a little sacrifice here and there.
