B&W CDM2 & Marantz SR780 Problem

Hey Everybody,

I am not really familair with the entire hi-fi community, but figured I would come here asking for some advice.

I have a set of B&W CDM2s and an old Marantz SR780 that has been sitting in my basement for a long time unused. I hooked it back up to the best of my memory and it sounds awful when I use my phone with an aux to coaxel connector. It sounds super muffled and almost underwater quality which is not how I remember this system sounding. It has plently of base but the high end sounds just terrible. I currently just have speaker wire going from the front outputs on the amp to the low-fi spot on the back of each CDM2, am I doing something wrong or does anybody have any advice to improve the quality?

Are the jumper bars still in the speaker terminals?....small brass bars connecting the low frequency terminal to the high frequency terminal on the speakers.
