I've noticed that the WHF review of the AVR600 has been amended to say that the firmware issues have now resolved usability issues. This is certainly not the case for me or it seems a number of other users.
I am getting frequent lock-ups with firmware 1.9 when using my Virgin Media V+ box (3 times last night). Lock-ups render the Arcam remote unusable and require the main power switch to be reset. When I do get a picture, theres no audio (input audio set to HDMI on AVR600) and I have to change channel on the V+ box. I'm getting more errors with the V+ with 1.9 (installed by dealer) than I did with 1.8. My Oppo blu-ray has less issues with 1.9 than it did with 1.8, but it's still not devoid of issues.
Having recently listened to some alternatives to replace the AVR600, I'd agree it is in a league of it's own in audio terms, but I wouldn't call it "one box nirvana" as it stands. I can only compare it to my previous HDMI amp, an Onkyo 905 which cost me £800. I had no issues with any of my HDMI connections with this amp, obviously some manufacturers have a more polite handshake technique!
WHF Team, I'd be grateful if you could do some of your own research into other owners/forums to see the scale of people still experiencing issues. I'm concerned that the awards are looming and that calling the AVR600 one box nirvana sends the wrong message to Arcam and potential buyers. Thanks for your consideration of this issue.
