Hi Friends,

I am using Tannoy F1 system with evntry level Onkyo 330 AVR.Now I need to upgrade AVR.
I have few on my lists-
1.Yamaha 667
2.Onkyo 608
3.Denon 1912

Now I have read in forum that Tannoy goes well with Onkyo & Pioneer(I may not buy).
Denon will be OK.Many are not in favour of Yamaha with Tannoy.
I am considering Yamaha 667 for 2 reasons- 7.1 Preout & 7.1 analoge in.Its sounds much better with music to😵nkyo amps retires early than actual egde(Mostly due to heat?).Onkyo 609 look I dont like.

So my genune question is-
1.Will Yamaha 667 + Tannoy F1 produce that bad sound?
2.Isnt Tannoy capable of producing decent sound with Yamaha?
3.What can be negative of this combo?

Well currently I may not get Demo easily so need yours suggestion.

Thanks.

I think you've got to go with your own listening preferences.

My friend has a Yamaha 465 with some Tannoy SFX and is happy with it. I've heard it and for the price it's good, so I don't think there's any problem per se.

I've had Tannoy dual concentrics for a long time and I now have a Denon amp, which for me is able to exploit the precision of the Tannoys, but also is on the warm side of neutral and that bit of richness but controls the bass very well.

From listening the Yamahas seem a bit laid back for me, but has a ncie natural sound. The Pioneers were too clinical, and struggled at the lower end. The Onkyos I've heard were fine but lacked detail.

Thanks for reply,

One of my friends told me that Tannoy has dome tweeter & Yamaha is warmer,so can sound dull with F1.I need to get a Demo but not sure that amp will be on desk.My only concern is that I should not get forced to chage the AVR soon.

Anyone else has another thoughts?

Thanks.

As said, it really depends on YOUR listening preferences. What sounds dull to one sounds brilliant to other. That's why forums are good starting point for suggesting equipment to shortlist, but you must demo them yourself to see what you prefer.

For example, I hated the Pioneer receiver with my speakers when I demoed it, & loved the Yamaha. I know some members here who love the Pioneer with the same speakers.

Yamaha & Denon are a touch warmer sounding, & Pioneer is a bit bright sounding.

Thanks,

I prefer neutral sound. With Onkyo I get good output ,but not very detailed. As said earlier, its basic AVR(330).Demo looks tough as this model is available as Box packing.
I have heard Yamaha 457 with Klipsh & it sounded smooth & better with stereo.I compared it with Denon which was bright with Klipsh.

I still would like to know if anyone has Yamaha with Tannoy F1.I shouldnt get disappointed with gr8 AVR with F1.If matching gives good sound,I will choose Yamaha.

Hi,

Can Rotel AVR like RSX-1058 sound better with Tannoy F1?
Will the sound be musical?

Thanks.
