Average UK Male Weight by Middle Age now 14 Stone

Another below* here, though I do love food and drink. This necessitates weights at home and a lot of miles with the dogs, but that feels worthwhile. A decent level of base fitness does far more for you than just keep the pounds off.

*Not that I know exactly what I do weigh, tbh. I gauge where I am by the fit of clothes. I used to be very much heavier and kick-started weight loss about 15 years ago using an exercise bike. I got to the point where whatever I did my weight wouldn't budge any further. It wasn't until I put my suit on ( a rare occurrence) that I could see there was more room in it. I'd clearly been adding muscle at the same rate I was losing fat, hence the equilibrium, and hence why fit of clothes feels more useful to me. By that point though, I'd thrown away the scales in a fit of pique...

EDIT: I wonder if anything has happened to average height over those years? Probably not a lot, but over longer periods we've been getting taller, and like for like, taller people are heavier without being fatter.

EDIT2: A quick google suggests male height has increased by around 2cm since 1998, as far back as that chart went - just over a 1% increase. If, simplistically this meant a 1% increase in all dimensions, that would mean we were around 3% more voluminous (!), which is, unsurprisingly, nowhere near enough to account for the reported rise.

Mine has dropped to a tad under 90 from 100kgs since 31/12/24. Have gone from pre-obese to overweight. Losing a further 9kg will put me in the |correct| BMI region. Must start early morning cycling again, despite my wife worrying about my safety.

I am now 14 stone since I stopped dieting and relaxed what I can eat as you naturally would, so I guess I am now bang on average. 😎
How tall, or short, are you?

I’m 6 foot 1 or 185cm and approximately 15 stone 4 or 97Kgs. M y wife has been slowly cutting how much we eat and, keeping our diet healthy, so weight is dropping, just a little. As of last Friday however, I have started to go to a gym, to improve strength and fitness and, help lose excess lard…

Edit: My wife and I have talked about this a lot and, getting fitter is what I need to do. Don’t do anything and, I will get fatter and increasingly unfit then, quite likely be rotting underground before I can get to 70, because of heart failure. Do do something about it and, I may well still be able to walk for miles without difficulty when I’m 80 plus. It was an easy choice to make.

5ft 8inches and a half. Your bmi is lower than mine. Not that I go by that to tell if I am heathy or not.

"Losing weight is not as simple as just eating less".....some people say.

Give those same people a few blasts of Wegovy or Mounjaro and they lose weight - many stones some of them.

And what causes them to lose weight? Eating less.
It turns out losing weight is as simple as eating less 😮

Those weight loss jabs bring with them some quite serious side effects and, when people come off them, they go back to their old eating habits and balloon all over again.

If you gradually cut down on how much you eat over time, you can get into the habit of eating less, then you get lighter and stay lighter. Getting into the right mindset is better than any jab. It's easier said than done but, worth persisting.

Not sure what I weigh but I know I need to lose weight. Certain pairs of suit trousers and casual trousers are a bit tight around the waist these days. If I try to wear them I know about it within a few minutes, as I have nerve damage in the top of my legs. The pain I get in my legs if I wear trousers that are too tight.
My problem weight wise is I have a very sweet tooth. Biscuits, chocolate, wine gums, fruit pastilles, etc etc.
