AV receiver with phono stage vs phono preamp

Hi,

I'm currently on the market for a new AV receiver but i wonder if i have to be looking for an AV receiver with dedicated phono stage, or will i get better sound from my turntable if i use a dedicated phono preamp?

note that i only want to invest in a preamp for maximum the same amount as for the price difference between a AV receiver without and with a dedicated phono stage.

for example, the Denon avr-x4200w or the x3300w with a preamp?

If there's a phono stage in an AVR you can bet it's there as an afterthought and pretty rubbish. If you are going to add a turntable to an AVR, not sure why, then buy a separate phono preamp.
