I currently have an Onkyo 606 receiver running my B&W 685 Theatre speakers but am looking to upgrade the front stereo 685 speakers with the 684 floor standers and move the 685's to the rear/side to work alongside the 686 speakers for a 7.1 system.

It has been mentioned before that i may not be getting the very best from my speakers with the Onkyo 606 so am considering upgrading my reciever, looking around i have seen the Pioneer SC-LX82 for about £1200; is this overkill for my speakers or would i be better going for something a notch or 2 down from the Pioneer?

If it helps my sources are mostly DVD/Bluray and Xbox gaming, I use a Denon 1940 for DVD playback and a PS3 for Bluray but both will be replaced with the Panasonic BDP 85 when it arrives this week.

Any advice is appreciated as always

The Pioneer LX82 won't necessarily be an overkill with your speakers. All receivers sound different, & I would suggest you to demo a few before buying one.

Your options could include:

Pionner: LX82 / LX72 / VSX-LX53

Denon: 4310 / 3310

Yamaha: Z7 / RX-V3900 / RX-V2065

Well after having a listen i ended up spending £1000 on the new Onkyo 808, only had a few hours playing with it so far but have to say really impressed with the jump in performance over the 606; the ability to stream music directly from my PC to the reciever is also a big bonus.
